Questions to ask before you pay a deposit
A deposit is where good-faith negotiations turn into a binding commitment. Ask these before you send anything, not after.
Get everything in writing first
A full condition report, every accessory included in the sale, the agreed price and currency, and an inspection or return period should all be confirmed in writing before money moves. Verbal assurances are not a substitute for a written condition report.
Ask about provenance and service history
How long has the seller owned it, do they know the full ownership history, and when was it last serviced? A seller who can't answer basic history questions isn't necessarily hiding something, but you should factor that uncertainty into your price and your diligence.
Clarify payment and delivery terms before you commit
Understand who bears the risk in transit, whether shipping is insured for the full value, and what happens if the watch doesn't match its description on arrival. A seller unwilling to put these terms in writing is telling you something about how the rest of the deal will go.
